Exciting New Wellbeing Project Launches at Wharton Primary School in Little Hulton
We’re excited to be working in partnership with Wharton Primary School in Little Hulton, Salford, to deliver a new programme designed to improve children’s physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence and resilience. Funded by Salford CVS, the project will bring together sport, performing arts, healthy eating and family engagement to create lasting opportunities for local children and their families.
The initiative will provide three engaging sessions each week throughout the school year, giving pupils the chance to explore new interests, develop essential life skills and make healthier lifestyle choices in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.
Supporting Healthier, Happier Children in Little Hulton
With growing concerns surrounding children’s physical activity levels, mental wellbeing and increasingly sedentary lifestyles, we’re working alongside Wharton Primary School to make a positive difference.
Through conversations with school staff and families, we’ve identified a need for more accessible opportunities that encourage children to get active, build self-confidence, strengthen resilience and develop healthier everyday habits.
For many young people, time spent on phones, tablets and gaming devices can often outweigh opportunities for physical activity. Alongside this, not every child has access to organised sports, creative activities or practical education around healthy eating and wellbeing.
Our new Little Hulton community project aims to address these challenges through early intervention, providing children with positive experiences that support their physical, emotional and social development.
By combining creative learning, physical activity and practical wellbeing education, we hope to encourage children to discover new talents, form friendships, improve their confidence and develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Bringing Learning, Creativity and Healthy Living Together
We’ve designed an exciting and varied programme that combines performing arts, sport and healthy lifestyle activities, giving children the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and have fun along the way.
Performing Arts and Creativity
Through dance, drama and performing arts, we’ll encourage children to express themselves, explore their creativity and develop valuable communication and teamwork skills. Pupils will also have the opportunity to showcase their achievements through a special Christmas performance, celebrating their hard work with families and the wider school community.
Football, Sports and Physical Activity
Our football and multi-sports sessions will encourage children to get moving, improve their fitness and discover the enjoyment of being active. With activities suitable for all abilities, we’ll focus on developing teamwork, resilience, confidence and positive relationships, while helping children build healthy habits through sport.
Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Choices
We’ll also introduce practical cooking workshops and interactive wellbeing activities, helping children understand the importance of balanced nutrition, hydration, sleep and managing screen time. Families will be invited to get involved in selected sessions, encouraging everyone to take what they’ve learned and make positive changes together at home.
By offering a mix of creative, physical and educational activities, we aim to make healthy living enjoyable, accessible and achievable for every child involved.
Working Together to Make a Difference in the Salford Community
Our partnership with Wharton Primary School represents a shared commitment to creating better opportunities for children and families in Little Hulton.
Although our partnership is relatively new, we’re united by a common goal: ensuring children have access to inclusive, engaging and meaningful experiences that support their development and wellbeing.
By working closely with school staff and listening to the needs of families, we’ve designed a programme that responds directly to challenges facing the local community.
We believe this collaborative approach will help strengthen relationships between the school, families and the wider community, while providing valuable opportunities for children to learn, grow and thrive.
Creating a Lasting Impact Beyond the Classroom
At First Kick Foundation, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel confident, supported and empowered to reach their full potential.
For us, this project is about much more than delivering sports sessions or creative activities. It’s about giving children the tools to make positive choices, develop resilience, build meaningful relationships and improve their overall wellbeing.
Through regular participation, we aim to:
- Improve children’s physical health and encourage more active lifestyles.
- Strengthen mental wellbeing, self-esteem and emotional resilience.
- Build confidence, communication skills and positive relationships.
- Increase awareness of healthy eating, nutrition and everyday wellbeing.
- Encourage greater family involvement and healthier habits at home.
- Support children’s engagement, motivation and confidence in learning.
By investing in early intervention and positive childhood experiences, we hope to create meaningful, long-term benefits for pupils, families and the wider Little Hulton community.
