Purpose
First Kick Football considers health and safety to be of utmost importance. This policy sets out how we provide a safe environment for children, staff, and visitors. We comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR), and the EYFS 2023 (paras 3.55–3.65).
Roles & Responsibilities
– Operations Director – ultimate responsibility for compliance; ensures policies, training, resources, and insurance are in place.
– Office Team – maintain training records, health and safety documentation, accident/incident reports, and certificates (fire, PAT testing, insurance).
– Holiday Club Manager – responsible on site for daily health and safety checks, risk assessments, cleanliness, and recording accidents/incidents.
– All Staff – follow health and safety procedures, supervise children, and report hazards or incidents.
Safe Premises & Equipment
– Premises must be clean, well-lit, ventilated, and at a comfortable temperature.
– The Club only uses venues available exclusively during sessions.
– Toys, furniture, and equipment are regularly cleaned, risk assessed, and kept in good repair.
– Broken or unsafe items are removed immediately.
– Flammable equipment is stored safely.
Security
– Children cannot leave the premises during sessions without prior parental permission.
– External doors remain locked during sessions, except fire exits, which must be kept unobstructed and alarmed if possible.
– All visitors must sign in, state the purpose of their visit, and are supervised at all times.
Hygiene & Infection Control
– Toilets and wash facilities are cleaned daily; soap and hand-drying facilities are always available.
– Children wash hands before eating and after toilet use.
– Staff maintain high standards of personal hygiene, cover cuts, and dispose of waste safely.
– Spillages of blood, vomit, urine, or faeces are cleaned immediately in line with the Intimate Care Policy.
Food & Drink
– Covered under the Food Safety Policy, which ensures safe storage, preparation, hygiene, and allergen management.
Accident, Incident & First Aid
– All accidents, incidents, and dangerous occurrences are recorded and reviewed.
– Notifiable incidents are reported to Ofsted, HSE (under RIDDOR), and the Local Safeguarding Partners where applicable.
– A paediatric first aid trained member of staff is present at all times.
Risk Assessment & Fire Safety
– Risk assessments are carried out for premises, activities, and equipment and reviewed annually or after an incident/change.
– A fire risk assessment is completed annually.
– A fire drill is carried out annually and recorded in the Fire Log.
Staffing & Supervision
– Staffing ratios are maintained in line with EYFS requirements.
– A minimum of two staff are present at all times.
– Staff undertake health and safety training as required.
Review
This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if required by legislation or following an incident.
